Black details without a dark floor

A rug with fine black lines can connect black furniture legs or a window frame without requiring a solid black surface. Look at the proportion of dark to light in the full rug image. From across the room, small repeated lines may blend into a mid-tone. Test the effect at normal viewing distance.
