Rug dimensions are not furniture dimensions

A sofa width gives one reference, but it does not include side tables, chair angles or the space between seats. Draw the entire grouping before selecting the rug. Dining tables need an even larger working footprint because chairs move. Separate the dimensions of the object from the dimensions of the activity around it.

Start with the real room

A listed size is a physical outline, not a promise that it suits a named room. Measure in centimetres and use the actual variant dimensions. Include furniture movement and the height of the rug with its underlay where clearance matters. Keep colour choices separate while you settle the footprint; it makes the comparison much clearer.
